Boat Tour of Wisconsin River Upper Dells -- The Upper Dells features some of the area's most striking signature sandstone cliffs. Along the scenic route, you will see some of the tallest rock formations of the region such as Steamboat Rock and Black Hawk's Profile.
During the two-hour Upper Dells Tour, the boat also stops at two historic shorelandings - Witches Gulch and Stand Rock.
Witches Gulch is the first stop where passengers can explore mysterious passageways as they walk through this cool canyon that offers beauty beyond words.
Stand Rock is the area's world-famous trademark - sculpted by the forces of nature. Watch in amazement as our specially trained jumping dogs leap the five-foot chasm from the main cliff to the rock ledge. The demonstration commemorates the world's first stop-action photo taken by famous Dells photographer H.H. Bennett in 1888.
Multiple departures daily (April to Early November)
PLEASE NOTE: Check Availability Calendar for specific dates. Specific tour times are not guaranteed in Spring and Fall. You will be provided a telephone number on your E-Ticket to call to check available times for individual dates during Spring and Fall.
Rich in history, the Upper Dells Tour features two scenic shore landings - Stand Rock, the "trademark of the Dells," and Witches Gulch, a glen with mysterious passageways such as "Spooky Lane." The Upper Dells is also home to swallows' nests, beautiful trees, ferns, and flowers.
At Stand Rock, boat passengers can watch a specifically trained dog leap the five-foot chasm from the main cliff to the rock ledge. The demonstration commemorates the world's first stop action photo taken by famous Dells photographer H.H. Bennett in 1888.
Tour guides relay ancient tales of Native American spirits and legends as well as inspiring true stories about some noteworthy tribal members who made the Dells their home for centuries.
Guides describe the Dells' prehistoric past, how sand from an ancient inland sea was formed into huge rocky cliffs, then cut and shaped by the power of a melting glacier. The amazing rock formations include Devil's Anvil, The Navy Yard, Steamboat Rock, and Black Hawk's Profile.
Passengers will also hear the historical accounts of the lumber raftsmen of the late 1800s, including how they survived the treacherous waters of the Wisconsin River in the Dells region.
